BBR (Swedish National Association of Boat Surveyors): AUTHORIZATION, WHAT IS IT ?

 

The Swedish National Association of Boat Surveyors (BBR) is the trade organization for boat surveyors and was founded in January 1985. Authorization requires and is tied to membership.

Authorization has several purposes:

• The first is to formalize the competence requirements to obtain authorization.

• The second is to provide guidelines and rules on how an authorized surveyor should work.

• The third is to provide the board with standards to evaluate a member's work for guidance and follow-up.

The authorization process is built on a set of regulations that include various elements:

• Bylaws that govern the association's conditions and work.

• A formalized application and admission process.

• Rules with conditions and controls for member work.

• Standardization of inspection reports and documentation.

• An Authorization Committee to assess and verify the applicant's competence.

• Systematic theoretical exams.

• Supervised practical exams.

• Suitability tests.

• Background checks.

• Rules for how and when authorization ceases.​
